Minor Emergency Department

Department Page

Alongside our GP clinic we also have our Minor Emergency Department which is designed for minor illnesses and injuries.  This facility was set up due to the locality of RocDoc being based within a community where transport times to hospital are significant and ambulance stations are not based within the immediate area. Â

Within RocDoc we have a reception area, main waiting area, children’s waiting room, private consultation rooms, paediatric consultation rooms, adult consultation rooms, resus bays, meeting rooms and also the ability to purchase some medications and over the counter items (e.g. local honey, paracetamol, ibuprofen, children’s paracetamol and ibuprofen, etc.)

Some of the illnesses / injuries that we CAN see are (for a full list please see below):

  • Wound closures (suturing, glue, steri strips)
  • Burns and scalds
  • Tetanus matters
  • Minor head injuries
  • Nebulisers
  • Blood tests
  • Panic attacks
  • Ear, nose and throat infections
  • Insect and animal bites
  • Dressing care
  • Cellulitis (skin infections)
  • Rashes
  • Allergies and hay fever
  • Soft tissue injuries (sprains, strains, dislocations, etc.)
  • Back pain

RocDoc is prepared to deal with major injuries and illness also until such time as the ambulance service arrives, we are not however in the position to manage these patients fully or on an ongoing basis.  We also have the ability to treat serious patients on a short term life saving basis whilst the ambulance is en route to our location. Please remember that we cannot provide ongoing care for such patients as these types of patients need to be treated in specialised hospitals and would be conveyed off site to a hospital that specialised as such so that they can receive the best possible and appropriate care.  If you are in a situation such as this please call 999 or 112 and request an ambulance immediately.

If you are unsure if we can facilitate you then please contact us on 0818 543 999 and we are more than happy to advise you directly on suitability of referral.

Department's Services

No, you don’t need to make an appointment as we do accept walk in patients.  However, we always advise that people call us prior to just arriving to check availability as we can get very busy and any appointments already booked will take priority over any walk in patients.  We don’t really like people to be waiting for prolonged periods in the waiting area so calling first will ensure that this doesn’t happen as we can let you know when we can get you an appointment.  Please be aware that if you don’t contact us to check availability that if we have no availability there may be a while before you can be seen and we do try to ensure that patients are seen as soon as possible in all instances.

Please note that this list is not exhaustive and we also offer Specialist Clinics.

  • I emailed RocDoc about their procedures around testing young children, and Sarah was prompt, helpful and incredibly kind. I feel at ease, and more comfortable about arriving for testing in a few weeks. So grateful.

  • I would like to congratulate RocDoc on having an incredible girl called Anna working on their customer service line, both on-line, live chat and at the end of the phone. Yesterday I tried to organise a group booking for myself and the family, it was a little complicated to complete on line!
Thank God for Anna! Anna was on duty on the live chat line and was absolutely excellent. She guided me through the whole process, she was so patient, polite, friendly and helpful, an absolute credit to you. Today I called to check the details were all correct and she had the loveliest telephone manner, she remembered me from yesterday (not surprising as I took up at least an hour of her time!), she immediately resolved an error I had made, and completely reassured me that everything was in order. Her manner was so lovely, I felt I was chatting with someone I knew, she was calm, confident, polite and so friendly. This is not the type of service you normally receive from live chats or customer call lines, it was exceptional! I hope you appreciate what a great asset you have in your team! Well done Anna!

  • I only dealt with customer service this far - a lady called Carly was super helpful. From a customer service perspective, I have nothing to complain about. Thanks again Carly!

  • Reliable, professional service. They have squeezed myself and my partner in on short notice with emergencies in the past and have now become our regular attending GP.
Fantastic parking facilities out front. Receptionists are friendly and welcoming. The doctors are amazing and very happy to answer any questions. My partner will not see anyone else (just kidding) any other doctor we have been seen by is attentive and polite.
Only thing is email response time recently can be a bit slow/non-existent but understandable due to the nature of the job and current ongoing pandemic (normally was immediate and all emails answered so did not deduct a star).

  • My little girl had a fall tonight and badly hurt her finger. I rushed to Rocdoc immediately with her and Dr Damien saw her straight away, was so gentle with her and cleaned her up before sending us home. I was so impressed and would highly recommend RocDoc. Thank you so much.
